Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural therapy which is believed to work through reflex points found on the feet and hands.

It has its roots in ancient civilizations; the Egyptians, Chinese, Africans and the native American Indians all used healing therapies based on treating the feet and hands.

In the early part of this century it became a more precisely defined therapy, working on an understanding that the anatomy of the whole body is reflected in miniature on reflex zones of the feet and hands. By using specific techniques of applying pressure to these areas, the body's own energies are believed to accelerate healing.

The whole of both the feet and hands can be treated, not just the area corresponding to the part of the body producing symptoms of illness.

Can anyone be treated with Reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for everybody; most people feel the benefits of a treatment and there is no minimum or maximum age limit. As it is a holistic therapy, the treatments are tailored to suit the needs of the individual.

What happens during a treatment?

On the first appointment the Reflexologist will ask you questions about your health, both physically and emotionally, as well as enquiring about your lifestyle. This is an important aspect of the holistic treatment, as an understanding of all the factors that may be affecting your health are needed. It also gives the Reflexologist valuable time to talk, giving you time to ask her questions and helping everyone to feel at ease with each other.

The actual Reflexology treatment follows the consultation; it usually takes between forty-five and sixty minutes and is preceded and finished with a foot massage.

How many treatments will I need? The number of treatments required varies from person to person and often some effects are immediately experienced after one treatment, but a series of treatments may be needed to make a significant change in the condition.

Typically you may choose to have weekly treatments until a consistent improvement is recorded, progressing to fortnightly and then monthly intervals.

A treatment plan will be discussed and mutually agreed upon at the end of the first treatment.

After the course of treatments has concluded you may choose to have Reflexology regularly to maintain your good health, as any future areas of weakness of energy blockages may be found and corrected before ill health occurs.
